SRE PTA's LEGISLATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE

SRE PTA Legislative Action Committee wants to empower our parents to be advocates for our children.
We strive to keep our parents informed about issues, legislation or other actions by governing entities (local, state and national) which affect our students' education. Once informed, parents are encouraged to get involved, take action and make a difference.

What does the LAC do?
  • On the local level, some LAC parents join a “rotation” to attend all the LISD school board meetings and report back to the Vandegrift PTA Ladder (PTAs of schools which feed into, and include, Vandegrift High School).
  • Before LISD School Board Elections each year, the LACs of the Ladder host a Candidates Forum to help parents make an informed decision on who represents them at the district level.
  • Last spring, our LACs facilitated parent meetings with our state legislators to inform them of how the budget cuts to public school funding would affect our schools, teachers and students.
  • The LACs also coordinated with LISD administrators to provide community information meetings to keep parents informed about changes to public school finance.
  • The LAC would also love for our students to know more about the legislative process and learn how to be good citizens too! We could certainly use some help from all you creative parents that want to help with Constitution day in September.

WE NEED YOU to make a huge impact this year! Got exciting ideas? Consider being the Chair of the Legislative Action Committee. Contact the PTA President for more information.
