Legislative Action Committee

Program Info

Texas PTA’s Mission is“to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.”

SRE PTA Legislative Action Committee wants to empower our parents to be advocates for our children.  We strive to keep our parents informed about issues, legislation or other actions by governing entities (local, state and national) which affect our students' education. Once informed, parents are encouraged to get involved, take action and make a difference.

What does the LAC do?
  • On the local level, some LAC parents join a “rotation” to attend all the LISD school board meetings and report back to the Vandegrift PTA Ladder (PTAs of schools which feed into, and include, Vandegrift High School).
  • Before LISD School Board Elections each year, the LACs of the Ladder host a Candidates Forum to help parents make an informed decision on who represents them at the district level.
  • Last spring, our LACs facilitated parent meetings with our state legislators to inform them of how the budget cuts to public school funding would affect our schools, teachers and students.
  • The LACs also coordinated with LISD administrators to provide community information meetings to keep parents informed about changes to public school finance.
  • The LAC would also love for our students to know more about the legislative process and learn how to be good citizens too!

Ends at Texas State Capitol Building
Austin, Texas

Schedule will be posted Winter 2019

A critical difference between PTA and other parent groups is our dedication to advocacy. Public education is our one guarantee for a brighter and better Texas.

Each legislative session we hear about the need to improve public education, and history shows that following the conclusion of every legislative session, we all express our dissatisfaction with the results, wishing we had done more. By attending Rally Day, we are taking action — letting our PTA voices be heard while decisions are still being made.

Attending Rally Day is an investment of your time and resources that Texas students cannot afford for us to overlook.

Help us reach 2,000 attendees! Download the Rally Day flyer here and get the word out! #2K4RallyDay
